PCC 6 Top 8 Data Insight

The week-end of the 27/28th of January was held the 6th edition of the PrimeChampionshipCircuit. If you want to know more about the even itself, the matches and see some player POV analysis you can do so in this blog post : PCC 6 Top 8 Matches.

Here we are going to go a more analytical approach where we focus on the data. We will go into depth of the pick, ban and win rate of each heroes, while also diving into the teams and players stats of the event.

For those that prefer an audio approach you can watch this META Talk which is a talkshow where myself and two guest (Mr.Meds and JoeYoursTruly) go over the latest tournament and then exchange our thought about the data presented in that blog and some extras.

    Champion Stats

In total it is 18 matches that have been played. The draft format for this tournament was no mirror pick with 2 bans per teams. First ban occurring before any picks are made and second pack after each team have locked their third pick. The graphics below show the overall pick and ban rate of each champions, blue representing number of pick, while orange represents number of ban. If the champion is not appearing in the graph it simply means it was never pick or ban during the event.

What are the key takeaway from this graph? First we can see, Khaimera, Riktor and Belica where dominating the META with all 3 pick having a 100% pick/ban presence, which means they were either pick or ban every single game of the tournament, closely followed by Sevarog and Steel, with 17 appearances each. So the draft META was revolving heavily around securing those character with a lot of Crowd Control (CC), which in my opinion have two reasons. The obvious one getting good CC for yourself since it is one of the easier way to play the game even from behind, but also to not let the enemy team have all the CC for themselves making it almost impossible for you to play.

It is also interesting to note that only 4 carries has been played this tournament with a heavy focus on Murdock, Drongo and Twinblast. Revenant and Kira were completely absent despite being dominant forces in previous iteration of the tournament, and as usual Sparrow is never played in final phases of tournaments. Rampage also fall off hard but it is mainly because he was bug on that patch with his Rumble (E) not scaling properly, I do expect him to come back in future events.

We can also mention the 6 bans on Kallari and the 6 bans on Phase that seems like a lot for Off Meta pick. The first one is explained by some individual being extremely strong on the Kallari like Sneakz or Siccks and opposite team not willing to deal with the chaos this pick can provide. For the phase ban it is mainly due to The Professors team banning it every single of their game as they don’t want to play against it.

We can see that Iggy & Scorch entered the META very well. The champion provide great control of area during objectives fight, fast clear to generate priority in midlane, protection against dive with its ultimate Inferno and great objective damage making it a great all rounder that fits many composition. Talking about midlaner Fey and Morigesh completely absent of the tournament as well, both pick easily countered in competitive setting due to their lack of mobility.

Finally, we see some picked that usually dominated the META falling off and being disregarded that tournament. On top of the previously mentioned carry, we also have Dekker and Gideon. My take on the reason why would be that despite being 2 very potent picks in the early mid game, they both fall off in the later stage of the game and most game have gone to distance. Maybe in the future when we see teams being more confident at executing early mid game risky strategy and also the champion pool have more option to execute this type of strategy we will see more of them again.

Before we enter into the details of the Graph it is important to say that, the sample size (i.e. the amount of game) is very small especially for the character on the right side of the graph. So those number are to be taken with precaution, for instance Phase as 100% win rate but she has been used in only one game in a specific context so it does not mean Phase is utterly broken.

Nonetheless there is a few numbers that are interesting to watch. First Belica, Riktor and Khaimera all justified there 100% pick/ban appearance with all of them being over 50% win rate and 2 of them even reaching 64% which is a substantial win rate. Zarus, Narbash and Murdock definitely having a great time in this META as well.

On the other hand, some pick appeared to be strong but the result prove them otherwise. We can see Sevarog with 33%, Iggy & Scorch win 36%, or Drongo with 18%. For Sevarog and Iggy, number can be a little bit skewed since those pick where highly prioritized by Villains and ended up losing in the final which inflate the number of game those picked lost, but still it seems the better midlaner was Belica when it comes to this tourney. We can also note that Drongo was seemingly a bad pick while Twinblast rose up to a whooping 89% win rate. I would believe the dominance of Murdock and Twinblast in that tournament was due to a heavy tank META and both Drongo and Wraith excels at destroying squishy in one spell rotation.

One a finishing note on that graph, it’s been 4 tournaments that Dekker is under 50% win rate and this one is no different. It seems teams are finally catching up and not overly prioritize this pick that seems to be exceptionally strong on paper but still performs poorly at the top level of tournaments.

    Team Stats

Time to enter into the team stats, keep in mind that all the stats are averaged over 10 minutes of game, there is inherently a bias behind it since usually the first 10 minutes of a game is the least eventful when it comes to farm and kills. So naturally teams with longer average match length inflate their stats a little but it is still interesting to analyze them and draw some conclusions from it.

Another disclaimer is the fact, that the stats that we can collect are limited until Omeda re-instate their data API for everyone use. So in the past we had access to structure and objective data, it is not the case anymore unfortunately since we now have to rely on omeda.city API that is more limited on the data provided.

First, I am happy to see that even the winning team (EWT) did not have complete dominance over the tournament, over the 9 games they played they still lost 2 to 2 different teams. It show how high and close the level was on this tournament. If we look at the top performers, which is Villains and EWT it seems to indicate that the key factor is the amount of farm your team get and the limited number of death. Getting kills is all good but despite Professors having a high number there and even getting a better KDA than Even Worse Timing they ended up losing to them.

Another stats that is quite notable is the clear cut between the Top 4 team and 5-8th place when it comes to wards placed. I say it again and again but visions wins game in EWT is the best example of it. Has a trivia stats Rei, EWT support got two games where he place 49 and 48 wards, the second best support got a maximum of 36 wards in a game, it shows how the winner put a lot of focus on it and it is probably one of the reason they have the lowest amount of death out of all the teams.

    Player Stats

Similar to the team stats, the information are averaged on 10 minutes of game, which bring the same type of bias as previously mentioned.

First congratulation to Siccks for being the highest KDA player in the tournament with 8.86. It is even more impressive as a Jungler when the second is only at 3.56 by Import part of the winning team. When it comes to carry congratulation to Lakenator reaching 8.82 with the least amount of death and 71% of kill participation even though he is considered by many to be far behind the likes of Neft, Pablo, or CoLd on the role.

We can also see Seismic toping the hero damage chart while being at the bottom of the KDA leader-board, so it is not only about damage, it is about doing useful damage, a good example of why we should be looking at those value with critical thinking. When it comes to warding, Rei is the king with almost 1 ward placed by minute. Another mention is Nugzlit, jungler from No Bunny’s Business with a 100% kill participation, which is usually not a good sign and show an unbalance in the team.

Last from the damage taken column we can see that usually the frontliner and tank in this META was the jungle 6 off them in the top 7. Can be explained that we were in a tank META with Greystone and Khaimera being the pick of choice in that role.

Feel free to have fun with the ordering and the filters, you can also use the search field to filter on specific role for instance, and then share what you find nice or interesting in the comments.

    Conclusion

This is it for this first blog post sharing the data of the latest tournament, hope you liked it and don’t hesitate to leave a feedback on my discord about what I could do better or which type of data you would like to see in the future.
