PCC 7 Top 8 Data Insight

The week-end of the 20/21st of April was held the 7th edition of the PrimeChampionshipCircuit. If you want to know more about the even itself, the matches and see some player POV analysis you can do so in this blog post : PCC 7 Top 8 Matches.

Here we are going to go a more analytical approach where we focus on the data. We will go into depth of the pick, ban and win rate of each heroes, while also diving into the teams and players stats of the event.

This Friday (26th of April) I will have the usual META Talk on my Twitch channel where myself and two guests go over the latest tournament and exchange our thought about the data presented in that blog and some extras. Video will be added once released on Youtube.

    Champion Stats

In total it is 16 matches have been played, we only focus on the main event data. The draft format for this tournament was no mirror pick with 2 bans per teams. First ban occurring before any picks are made and second ban after each team have locked their 3rd pick. The graphics below show the overall pick and ban rate of each champions, blue representing number of pick, while orange represents number of ban. If the champion is not appearing in the graph it simply means it was never pick or ban during the event.

First, I want to congratulate Omeda for this patch since it really felt this time no pick were outrageously overpowered which really freed the picks and bans and created wonderful dynamics during this stage of each match. It really felt like teams could pick and bans based on their strength and opponents strength which was a nice change of path compare to previous edition.

Only one hero make a 100% appearance and it is the Zarus, as usual flex pick with good strength rise through the ranks. Interesting to see that Gideon is a close 2nd especially since I remember back in PCC 5 where NA were considering Gideon “trash”, he did not really change, I guess with the fall of Belica and the better coordination of teams this highly mobile character with great teamfight potential is finally showing how strong it could be. Another character that crawl back into the META heavily is Sevarog, was kinda shy away from for quite some time but it came back full force this event. Lauber probably no stranger to that.

In terms of bans, the 3 main targets where Zarus, Kallari and Phase the rest was a lot more open. It seems more and more teams dislike playing against the Phase and it is not just Professors anymore. I guess as team become better at surviving, getting kills need to be really fight for nowadays and adding Phase on top of it makes people virtually unkillable in the laning phase.

Drongo is interesting since in the first day for the Quarter Final he had a 100% pick rate but on the 2nd day it dropped down to only 37.5%. I assume Drongo was probably the strongest carry but seeing how dominant it was, teams adjusted their plan to counter it on 2nd day and after the adaptation he started to become more a liability than a solution. Love to see this type of evolution throughout an event.

Last thing that I would like to point is how Riktor and Belica have fallen out of flavor. Finally the latest nerf seems to have hit the mark at least when it comes to competitive Predecessor.

Regarding the win rate all top prio pick have over a 60% win rate which explain why they are highly contested. Phase is not in their since she only have 4 pick the rest is bans which through the winrate probably show it’s more we don’t like to play against more than she is overpowered.

Finally, for the first time ever Dekker rose over 50% winrate. I guess we needed team to stop prioritizing her so heavily and a good nerf on Belica for it to finally happens but the girl did it, proud of you. Speaking of Belica, the nerf seems to have really impacted her efficiency, with a 29% winrate one of the weakest in that tournament. Kwang also suffered a lot after the nerf, not being this unstoppable force anymore, teams will have to re-assess where is his place in the hero roster.

Highest relevant win rate goes to Narbash, the loud healer always remaining kinda silent in draft but always making a mark for himself. He even became a prio ban in the grand final thanks to how potent he is when 2 teams of similar skill level clatch against each other.

Last, it seems that jungle seems also more open, with Zarus and Crunch being the 2 that dominated that tourney, while Rampage, Khaimera and Kallari got dominated on. It’s nice to finally see a dynamic where heroes are not simply inherently strong but it is the team composition and the enemy team composition that seems to dictate a bit more their success.

    Team Stats

Time to enter into the team stats, keep in mind that all the stats are averaged over 10 minutes of game, there is inherently a bias behind it since usually the first 10 minutes of a game is the least eventful when it comes to farm and kills. So naturally teams with longer average match length inflate their stats a little but it is still interesting to analyze them and draw some conclusions from it.

Another disclaimer is the fact, that the stats that we can collect are limited until Omeda re-instate their data API for everyone use. So in the past we had access to structure and objective data, it is not the case anymore unfortunately since we now have to rely on omeda.city API that is more limited on the data provided.

Congratz on DLAB getting that Crown and also getting that Stats W on the KDA department. There is a few big thing to note from that table.

First look at the difference when it comes to warding between the top 2 teams and the rest. We have an average of 1.9 wards per minutes where the follow up is at best at 1.6 wards per minutes. Visions wins game and it shows here. I feel like it is a sector teams have not really invested into yet but it is a critical one to be able to take the right decision or start getting an edge when all 10 players in a match have great game sense.

Also, no team managed to break the 2000 gold/minute mark this event and I don’t think it is because team have gotten worse at farming. I think it shows more how the competition is become more fierce since team are making it harder for the opposing team to farm and that’s great to see.

    Player Stats

Similar to the team stats, the information are averaged on 10 minutes of game, which bring the same type of bias as previously mentioned.

Cold on top with a 8.5 KDA and 100% winrate, unfortunate he was not there for the 2nd day for The Chefs. Lakenator still impressive when it comes to stat number, the least amount of death in the tournament making him a very elusive carry. Neft very close to him when it comes to stats with being slightly better at securing kills for himself.

Hero damage is once again dominated by midlaners with Skype Hamster dealing the most but also being one of the weaker KDA in the tourney, so either a lot of fake damage or his teammate where lacking in helping him securing the kills. Which is interesting since we see other player like AppiePicker way lower on damage but 5 times the KDA, or Import being the 6 lowest damage in the tourney but being second top jungle on KDA very close to Siccks the number one. Dealing damage is good but converting the damage dealt into kills is more important and we can start seeing that smart damage is more important than raw damage which shows that the competitive scene is becoming better.

In terms of warding we see support starting to creep closer and closer to the 1 ward/ minute mark. I don’t know if you remember the team stats on warding but support seems to be responsible of almost half of it by themselves. Congratz to Pinzo that manage to get high up there even though he picked support again competitively for this tournaments which also shows that if you have some dedication you can level up quickly in what your roles is supposed to do.

    Conclusion

This is it for this blog post sharing the data of the latest tournament, hope you liked it and don’t hesitate to leave a feedback on my discord about what I could do better or which type of data you would like to see in the future.
