Predecessor Brawl Mode Tutorial

Welcome to this tutorial dedicated for the new Predecessor Game Mode called “Brawl“. Brawl is a fun, quick game mode, full of action that is perfect to launch when you want to simply enjoy the mechanics of what Predecessor has to offer. Here we are going to explain how it works and all the little details that is part of this chaos so you get your best time ever while jumping into the mode. As usual we have two formats, the YouTube video or the text version depending on what you prefer.

What is Brawl and how do we win?

Brawl is a 5v5 game mode with a single minion lane travelling from each base towards the enemy portals. Usually a game of Brawl last around 10-12 minutes which makes it perfect for quick session. Both team starts the match with 400 points and the first team reaching 0 points lose. So your goal is to reduce the enemies points while limiting how much your team are losing themselves.

How do you remove points?

  • Every enemy minions that dies will remove 1 point (even if nobody last hit it).
  • Every takedown on enemy heroes will remove 5 points.
  • Ally minions entering enemy portal will remove 1 point.
  • Ally Fangtooth entering enemy portal will remove 15 points.
  • Securing the Orb Prime will remove 50 points.
  • Killing Fangtooth or any buff does not remove any points.

How does the match goes?

Each team spawn in their fountain. You start at level 3 with 1400 gold. In this game mode, you gain 15 gold/s and passive xp/s which means you will earn gold and level up much faster than in the standard game mode. Every 30 seconds a minion wave will spawn at your fountain and walk towards the enemy portal. Your goal is to escort that wave so it can reach the enemy portal while destroying the enemy wave in the process. Naturally in doing so you will “Brawl” with the enemy team and try to take them down.

Every 5 takedowns, you will spawn a Fangtooth that is quite tanky and deal good amount of damage. Like with the minions, your goal is to escort it to the enemy portal to gain a big 15 points lead. At 10 minutes, the Orb Prime will spawn in the middle of the map which can act as a comeback mechanics or confirming your win since securing it will give you 50 points and the Orb Prime buff which will give a lead for a bit.

To help you with your fights there is multiple buffs to collect on the map, which we will describe in details later. And that’s basically it, not to complex as a fun game mode should be.

Let’s Look at the Brawl map in details

Mini Map with legends of the Predecessor Brawl Mode

At each extremity we have both team fountain. It is where you can regen your health and mana, where you can buy your items, and where you will respawn when you die or recall. There is 2 jump packs to jump quickly out of the base. Right outside each fountain you have each team portal, the goal towards where you want to bring your minions and Fangtooth. In the middle of the map, you have the single lane where minions will travel and where most of the action will happens. You have a lot of obstacle to play around and hide which makes it very easy to flank or surprise opponents even with melee character. On top of it, you can stand on top of all those obstacle taking advantage of the high ground. To get there use you hero mobility or one of the 10 explosive flowers available on the map.

What about the Buffs?

For those obsevant you realized the side of the map have multiple colored point that are the buffs. There is the river buffs, the brown buff, the purple buff and the health packs.

  • The Brown buff gives you higher jumps and a basic attack damage bonus. It last for 45 seconds and takes 120 seconds to respawn. It first spawn at 25 seconds which means you can take it before the first minions wave arrives in the middle of the map.
  • The Purple buff makes you bigger and provide a bonus of max health and tenacity. It lasts 30s, 120s for respawn and first spawn at 25s.
  • The Rivers buffs are the same as in the standard mode, with green giving a shield, pink a boost to ability damage, orange a boost to attack speed, and grey a boost to movement speed. They first spawn at 40 seconds and then every 1 minute and 15 seconds afterwards, so 1:55, 3:10, …
  • Health packs are close to the fight and you simply need to walk on them to grab them. They give you an instant heal of 20% of your max health and regen 20% of your max mana. If you grab them when your allies are nearby they will also benefit from the effect. They respawn time is 30 seconds which is very short.

Additional notes regarding brawl mode

The most important thing to note is that there is some alteration added compared to the standard game mode. Some effects and heroes have some modifiers that change their strength or the pacing of the mode. For instance we have the following generic modifiers:

  • Crest generates progress stacks passively so they evolves quickly
  • Blink is on a 120 seconds cooldowns (instead of the standard 300 seconds)
  • All ultimate have a 20% cooldown reduction by default

But also heroes receives some adjustment to make the mode more fair so every character can be usable and limit the OP potential of others. Here is a couple of modifiers, but by no means an exhaustive list :

  • Narbash, Phase, and Muriel all takes 5% more damage
  • Narbash Healing is reduced by 20%
  • Sevarog gains Reaper of Souls (Passive) stacks passively has the game progress

For those that loves numbers we can also note that waves are always the same with 2 Melee, 3 Range and 1 Cannon. And the last hit gold bonus are slightly altered from the standard game mode with melee giving 25, range 20, and cannon 60. But last hit gold matter way less thanks to the heavy influx of passive gold and from takedowns.

And this is it, I hope with the added knowledge from this tutorial you are ready to tackle this fun game mode. On my side I will keep working on future content that help you become the best at Predecessor. Mugi Out!
